Manitoba Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister was the target as the leaders of the province's main political parties faced off Wednesday in a televised debate.

Pallister was accused by NDP Leader Wab Kinew of being hard to work with and Liberal Leader Dougald Lamont said the Tory government's fiscal restraint was damaging the province.

The debate was hard to follow at times with leaders talking over one another and going back to talking points rather than addressing questions.

Kinew often deflected questions and went back to healthcare. Meanwhile, Pallister continued to reference the "massive mess" his government inherited from the previous NDP government.

Green Party Leader James Beddome asked Pallister to commit to a universal basic income to reduce poverty.

None of the leaders brought forth any new ideas or promises during the debate.

Manitobans go to the polls September 10 and the 50-minute debate is, so far, the only debate scheduled to feature all major party leaders.
