Firefighters used the jaws of life to free one man from his vehicle on Wednesday afternoon after a serious two-vehicle collision.

Oakbank RCMP say they received a report of the crash at approximately 10:55 a.m. The location of the crash was the intersection of Provincial Road 206 and Provincial Road 213, in the RM of Springfield, approximately 23 KM northeast of Winnipeg.

RCMP said in a release that the initial investigation has determined that a black 2016 Dodge Ram was travelling westbound on Provincial Road 213 when it collided with a red 2011 Ford Escape that was travelling southbound on Provincial Road 206.

The impact resulted in the Ford escape rolling off the road and trapping its occupant. The RM of Springfield Fire Department used specialized equipment to safely extract the sole occupant of the Ford Escape.

The occupant of the Ford Escape, a 44-year-old male from the RM of Springfield, was transported to the hospital with non-life threating injuries.

The occupants of the Dodge Ram, a 22-year-old male and an 18-year-old male, both from the RM of Springfield, Manitoba, suffered minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Speed is considered to be a factor.
