The City of Winnipeg is getting ahead of an approaching storm, and warning citizens now that they should make alternate parking arrangements this weekend.

Just two days ago the annual Declared Snow Route Parking Ban was lifted.

Now, with a Colorado Low threatening to bring up to 30 cm of now, the City has reinstated the ban.

"City crews are ready-to-serve and prepared to deal with the snow that is in the forecast for Winnipeg this weekend and next week," the City said in a release. "To facilitate snow clearing on major routes, a Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting Sunday night into Monday morning (begins at midnight on Monday, March 5)."

Vehicles parked on a snow route during the ban could receive a $100 fine, or be towed.

The City also says that people should check their streets for snow route signs.

If you're unsure if your street is a snow route you can call 311 to check.
