Winnipeg police have responded to eight stabbings with eleven victims in the past four days.

No deaths have been reported in these cases, and only one arrest has been made.

According to police, a man was stabbed in the area of Princess Street and Notre Dame Avenue and robbed of his bike on Friday morning. Later that day, a 16-year-old girl went to a local hospital with stab wounds; she said she had been stabbed in the 900 block of Banning Street. Early Saturday morning, two men reported to a local hospital with stab wounds; one of them said he'd been stabbed on Princess Street. Also early Saturday, a man and a woman were robbed in Central Park; the man was stabbed multiple times and was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was upgraded to stable. Two people have been arrested in the Central Park stabbing. Early Sunday, a man was stabbed on Wellington Avenue. Multiple people were stabbed in two separate incidents Monday evening. And this morning, police say a 30-year-old man was stabbed in the upper-body in the 400 block of Maryland Street. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition but has been upgraded to stable.

Police say at this time there's no information to believe any of the incidents are related.

Constable Jay Murray said this morning he'd classify three of the cases as currently under investigation -- right now. He said in some of the incidents victims told police they weren't interested in pursuing the matter or were uncooperative. Anyone with information relating to any of the stabbings are asked to contact Winnipeg Police or Crime Stoppers.

Murray says numbers like these aren't "usual" for Winnipeg police officers, but it's not uncommon either.

"These are numbers that we've seen for some time. It's what our officers deal with quite often. This isn't anything new for officers."

Murray acknowledges the work of medical professionals, saying without their work he thinks we would see a higher homicide count or people in hospital longer, in more critical stages.
