A second coyote has been captured and euthanized in Winnipeg after two children were mauled over the course of a week.

On Monday, Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development say an adult coyote was located and humanely euthanized.  It has since been sent for testing.

Staff Sgt. Graeme Smith, Winnipeg District, Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development Conservation Officer Service says a second coyote was captured on Wednesday near Knowles Avenue and Popko Crescent. It will also be sent for testing.

In just one week, the North Kildonan area experienced two coyote attacks. The first was on June 24 near Knowles Avenue and Popko Crescent, which left a 9-year-old with wounds to his head and legs. The second attack, which involved a 4-year-old, took place on June 30 off Headmaster Row.

While the province says coyote attacks are extremely rare, they are reminding Winnipeggers to take every precaution to protect the public and prevent future incidents.

Conservation officers, with assistance from the Manitoba Trappers Association, will stay in the area until the threat is over.
