Severe thunderstorms rolled across several parts of Manitoba Saturday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and hail to a number of regions.

A relatively warm and moist air mass overtop of the Pembina and Red River Valleys combined with daytime heating and an approaching low to develop some significant storms across Manitoba, CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner says.

"We've received multiple reports of significant hail falling in Lowe Farm between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.," said Sumner. "As you can see in the photos, it looked like snow in June."

Heavy rainfall was also part of today's severe weather event with the Manitoba Ag Weather station near Kane reporting nearly 37mm (almost 1.5 inches) in less than an hour, with Morris receiving almost 15mm (6/10ths) in the same amount of time.

As of 10 p.m. Saturday night, the Manitoba Ag Weather Network reported 2 inches of rain in St. Pierre, 1.5 inches in Morris, and 1.2 inches in Gardenton.

Manitobans from across the province shared photos of what they saw during Saturday's storm.
