Firefighters have left the scene of a massive blaze in St. Boniface.

The fire at Friendly Family Farms, an oil seed processing plant, remains under investigation. It sparked early yesterday afternoon, and fire crews were still on scene today monitoring for hot spots.

The building is a total loss, and the City of Winnipeg says due to the damage to the structure, investigators will rely on witness accounts and forensic information in determining the cause.

No damage estimates are currently available.

Dawson Road North is now open to traffic.

The City of Winnipeg had said in a release last night that the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crew aerial drone was an invaluable tool in fighting the fire, helping direct crews.

Three employees were inside the building when the fire erupted; all escaped. One of them was treated on scene for smoke inhalation.
