One woman received the Order of Manitoba, the highest honour, for her support raising record-level funds for Manitoba's hospitals.

Tina Jones is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, as well as President of Banville & Jones Wine Co.

She is one of twelve Manitobans to receive the province's highest honour at an awards ceremony that is yet to be determined due to social distancing guidelines.

In receiving this award, Jones shares, "I feel like it's a dream come true. With all the work that we're doing, the special things that are going on in this community, especially this year, this award means a lot to many people."

She's been working with the HSC Foundation for seven years and has been the Chair of the Board for five.

"We've raised over $65 million in the last five years as we're working very closely with the hospital administration, the government, doctors, nurses, and professionals at HSC."

Wait times at hospitals across the city have been an issue in the past.

"Every day what we want is to make better diagnosis', better outcomes, and lower wait times. That's what we're working on and we've been able to do that on a number of fronts."

During a worldwide pandemic, hospitals are busier and more needed than ever.

"We probably help tens of thousands of people every year and there isn't another organization that you can work with that helps that many people and changes their lives. The impact is profound."

Jones inspires others to give generously. When asked what inspires her, she says, "I think helping others. It really is about helping people and changing people's lives."

The generosity of the province is palpable. Year after year Manitoba has topped the Generosity Index which is a publication put together by the Fraser Institute.

Jones agrees, saying, "Manitobans are special that way. We really think that it's time to give back and pay it forward."
