During the first few days of May, the police helicopter, AIR 1, has provided support for a number of fires.

With five grass/brush fires on Monday alone, fire crews with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) have needed additional help locating the hotspots in order to stop the fire quickly. The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) have offered their helicopter, AIR 1, to help.

"The helicopter flight crew, thermal imaging sensor and camera were able to assist members of the WFPS in directing fire suppression resources and locating previously unlocated hotspots," said WPS Constable Jay Murray.

AIR 1 was able to provide assistance at fires near:

  • Spence Street
  • Redonda Street
  • Crescent Drive
  • Transcona Bioreserve
  • Day Street
  • Main Street
  • Whiteshell Avenue

WPS provided a video that highlights the effectiveness of the collaboration.
