Parents of students in the Valley Gardens area will be coming home today to find phone messages that their child was in a lock-down situation at school. It was not a drill.

Parents received phone calls this afternoon that a suspicious person was in the area and that their children were in a lock-down.

Police were called to the scene at Kildonan East Collegiate and Valley Gardens Middle School today after responding to reports of a suspicious person.

Authorities say they believe the person was known to the school. Reports were made that the suspect may have had a weapon. Police say that there was no indication there was a firearm on the person.

Earlier this week, the same schools were on a hold-and-secure after coyotes were roaming the area.

Police say that the latest lockdown was a precautionary measure and that there is no threat to the community.

The lock-down has since been lifted.
