From cleanathons to quilt shows to concerts, there are all kinds of events happening outside of Winnipeg this week.

Wednesday, May 3

  • A food security workshop is taking place at Emerson New Horizon Hall from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. This workshop hosted by Woodmore Women's Institute is titled “Eating From Your Garden Year Round” and will feature local gardeners sharing information on what they grow and how to use it.
    Please bring a food donation for the Emerson Franklin Food Bank in lieu of registration cost.
  • “Kids in the Kitchen” begins at 3:30 at Morris School. This is for ages 8 to 12. Register at Morris Recreation Office.

Friday, May 5

  • West Park School Cleanathon in support of Blue Sky Opportunities has been rescheduled for the afternoon. Keep an eye out for students as they spring clean Altona.
  • Insight for Living Canada presents “Experience the Psalms” at Winkler EMMC at 6 o’clock. Enjoy inspiring music, ministry, worship and dessert.
  • Boundary Trails Health Centre Winkler Auxiliary is having a bake sale at Southland Mall. The sale begins at 9:00 am with coffee and dessert being served all day. Proceeds go towards the purchase of the following equipment: 2 hand-held Dopplers used for fetal heart rate (1 for OR and 1 for OBS), 2 Sara Steady wheelchairs (1 for the medical ward and 1 in rehab), and 1 Tonometer for the OR.

Friday to Sunday

  • The Barnswallows quilt show and craft sale is at Morden Access Event Centre. A small admission fee is charged for the quilt show but the craft sale has free admission. Hours are 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Friday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, and noon to 5:00 pm on Sunday.

Saturday, May 6

  • Carman Health Auxiliary invites you to a luncheon at Carman United Church Hall. Lunch will be served from 11:30 to 1:30. Cost is $10. A bake sale, crocus auction and other draws will also be held. Proceeds go towards the purchase of a treatment chair for Carman Hospital.
  • A spring craft and vendor sale in support of Katie Cares, is planned at Winkler Quality Inn’s banquet hall. Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and admission is free.

Sunday, May 7

  • Manitou United Church is serving a Spring Smorg from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the C.E Building. The meal includes roast beef, ham, meatballs, vegetables, salad and dessert. Cost is $15 for adults, $8 for ages 6 to 12, and ages 5 and under get in free. Take-out meals will be available but need to be called in by noon to 204-242-2040.
