Organizations that fight against human trafficking help their victims will get a much-needed prayer boost at the upcoming Freedom Fair.

Freedom Prayer Network is hosting its fifth annual Freedom Fair on Sunday, September 23.

"(It's) a two-hour prayer and worship night where we invite the city of Winnipeg to come join us and support front-line ministries that are fighting against human trafficking," explained organizer Marla Friesen.

Unlike a regular fair, the organizations don't spend the evening promoting their ministry. Instead, Marla Friesen says the people who gather pray for those fighting human trafficking and the individual organizations.

"It's to boost their batteries, so to speak," said Marla's husband Lowell Friesen.

Marla Friesen says many of the people who attend have bought into the ministries already but believes there is absolutely room to learn for those who are curious.

"We don't kick everyone out the door when it's over," said Lowell Friesen.

The evening consists of worship and prayer, with small groups gathering around organizations directly to pray for them. Lowell Friesen says the groups fighting human trafficking are thankful, and those attending are always wondering why more people aren't coming out.

Freedom Prayer Network is also looking for volunteers to spend one hour, once a month, praying for those on the front-lines of the fight against human trafficking.

This event is part of Freedom Sunday. Held on September 23, Freedom Sunday is a day that churches commit to seeing the problem of slavery, understanding that God wants to end it, and then joining the fight spiritually and financially.

Freedom Fair is on Sunday, September 23. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the main program runs from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. It will be held at Fort Richmond Baptist Church.
