A armed and barricaded standoff in the North End turned violent after three Winnipeg police officers were shot at.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of College Avenue after receiving a report of a female being held against her will at this location.

Upon arrival, officers quickly learned that there were several occupants in the suite, as well as firearms.

The Tactical Support Team was called in, and several people, including the female who was being held, were removed. However, the remaining occupants, who were still considered to be armed, refused to leave.

Over a dozen police vehicles remained at the scene for several hours as officers worked to get the suspects out of the apartment building.

At one point during the standoff, one of the suspects fired at police, striking three officers.

Injuries to the officers were non-life-threatening.

Police were eventually able to arrest two men in their 40s. They remain in custody.

Members of the Majors Crimes Unit and Homicide Unit continue to investigate.
