Kids and teachers are enjoying a week off for spring break, but the same can't be said for school zone speed limits.

School zone speed limits are still in effect, even though school does not run Monday, March 26 through Friday, March 30.

According to By-Law 76/2014, a maximum speed of 30 kilometres per hour will be in effect at designated school zones between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., from Monday to Friday, September until June. There is no break when kids aren't in classes the rest of the year.

Reduced-speed school zones apply to streets that border private or public schools which include grade six or lower and are not regional streets.

Many schools have playgrounds, rinks or community centres nearby, so kids will still be out on the street.
