The Manitoba government has announced its replacement for the chair of Winnipeg's health region, who stepped down last week after reports he'd travelled to Arizona during the pandemic.

Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson says Patricia Solman is the new chair of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Solman is a chartered accountant and was most recently vice-chair of Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation.

Premier Brian Pallister said last month he was disappointed former chair Wayne McWhirter disregarded a strong recommendation from health officials that Manitobans avoid unnecessary travel.
