Carlos Rivera has now lived in Canada for 11 years, but he is originally from El Salvador and has now shared his life story in a new book.

Rivera lived in El Salvador at a time of civil war in the 1980s which lead to thousands of deaths as well as widespread poverty, violence, and the growth of dangerous gangs that still exist to this day. He found himself in the midst of the chaos between military, paramilitary, opposing guerrilla groups, and what were known as the death squads as he joined the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front. Rivera faced hunger, torture, and near death, but now attributes his survival and eventual escape to God.

"I would like to share how God saved my life in many opportunities fighting and also in jail when I was tortured. This is so important because a lot of people don't realise how God works. Until now I still ask myself how God saved my life from that military or death squad hands. I encourage people, go follow the story."

Rivera now lives in Myrtle, Manitoba with his family. His book, An Immigrant Latino - A Latino in the World is available at The Winkler Bible Book

Shop, Winkler Pharmacy, Party and Gift Shop in Altona and The Co-Op Store in Rose North as well as online.

He also is working on a new book that he hopes will open the eyes of his readers to the plight of many immigrants to Canada. It does not yet have a title, but he hopes it will be edited and released soon.
