In celebration of Manitoba 150, BMO and Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) are partnering "in the spirit of reconciliation and mutual respect."

The historic Bank of Montreal has stood tall at 335 Main Street for over 100 years. The historical site was built in 1913 and was occupied by BMO since construction. In 2019, BMO announced that it would be moving out of the location.

have a rich history in Winnipeg, and we couldn’t have found a better partner to pass on the legacy of this building," John MacAulay, Regional President, Prairies Central, BMO Bank of Montreal says. "Along with our fellow Winnipeggers, we look forward to celebrating both their history and future in the city."

The Portage and Main location is symbolic for Manitoba's Metis population due to its proximity to Settlement and the Red River Cart trails. During Manitoba 150, MMF is acknowledging that Manitoba is the first and only Canadian province created by Indigenous People.

"Reconciliation is about making real change through practical accomplishments. Today’s milestone of reconciliation shows the leading role that can be played by the private financial sector," Chartrand says.
