A Manitoban ministry is a big winner as Smile Cookie Week wrapped up for another year.

Tim Hortons’ annual cookie sale fundraiser wrapped this past Saturday, and Steinbach Franchise Owner Andrew Heidebrecht says his restaurants hauled in over $15,500.

He says that an impressive amount of cash will be going to a very worthy organization.

“I just want to thank Youth For Christ for how they support our young people and impact their lives in a positive way," says Heidebrecht of the beneficiary.

"I am so grateful for the work that they do."

Steinbach YFC Executive Director Rueben Singh says he enjoyed being on the receiving end of the event.

“It’s really humbling to be chosen,” he remarks. “And it was a fun week of promoting it, being in-store, and seeing how glad I am that I am not a full-time cookie decorator because I definitely do not have that skill set.”

Singh jokes that he will not be getting a day-job drawing smiley faces on desserts any time soon as he is quite happy to be working with youth daily instead. He notes this extra spending money will go towards paying off the extensive renovations which were done at Backstage last summer.

Any excess will go towards their ongoing Impact Fund which seeks to make a lasting difference in the lives of Steinbach’s young people.
