Mayor Brian Bowman brought in a few ringers for his curling match against the Exchange District Biz today.

David Pensato, executive director of Exchange District Biz, played lead for his team, and he didn't seem to have much confidence going into the match.

"I'm pretty sure it's a forgone conclusion," he said before the game started.

Mayor Bowman's team included Pyeongchang Winter Olympics gold medalist Kaitlyn Lawes, Jeff Stoughton, Selena Kaatz, Laurie Macdonell, and Darren Oryniak. They showed up to the rink led by Winnipeg Police Pipe Band bagpiper Scott Murray.

"Yesterday, when we were talking to the Exchange (District) Biz, they said bring whoever you want, so I did," said Bowman.

The game ended up falling off the rails a bit, with the concrete rocks proving a bit heavy. Players and spectators laughed as curlers opted to use their brooms and feet to push the rocks to the house.

The match was a celebration of winter fun, Canada’s athletic talent, and Old Market Square.
