A report of an injured male this morning brought officers to the scene of a stabbing in downtown Winnipeg.

Officers from the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) responded at 2:10 a.m. this morning to the area of Young Street and Cumberland Avenue after receiving a report of an injured male.

An adult male was located upon arrival, who was suffering from injuries to his upper-body region that appeared as if they had been inflicted by a bladed weapon.

He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and officers searched the area but did not find any further evidence of the attack.

Police believe at this time that several individuals were involved in the incident, and request that anyone with information contact investigators.

The male victim has since been upgraded to stable condition.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and is being handled by the WPS Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
