A man in his 50s is dead and the City of Winnipeg's murder rate has now reached the same number for all of 2018.

The Winnipeg Police Service says they were called about a large fight on Friday night around 8:45

Police responded to the intersection of Sherbrook St. and Sara Ave. According to a release from the WPS responding officers located an adult male suffering from an upper-body stab wound and immediately began administering first aid.

Police say the man was taken to hospital by ambulance but succumbed to his injuries.

A 34-year-old male has been arrested and remains in custody. Charges have not yet been laid.

The homicide is the 22nd of 2019. There were 22 homicides in Winnipeg in all of 2018.

Police looking for witness

The WPS says that a person had stopped and offered assistance to the victims. Police would like to speak with this person as they believe they may have valuable information for the investigation.

The witness was driving a white coloured SUV.
