A man has been arrested after witnesses say someone threatened passengers on a Winnipeg bus with a pair of scissors.

A Winnipeg radio station says people on the scene say the man also wielded a makeshift blowtorch using a lighter and a can of hairspray.

The incident took place Wednesday evening while the bust was stopped at Portage Avenue and Arlington Street. The Winnipeg Police service says all passengers were safely evacuated by the time officers arrived, however, the driver stayed on the bus.

Although no one was hurt, a union official says the man tried to stab the driver several times.

Police took the man down with a stun gun and a 29-year-old suspect faces charges of possessing a weapon and assault with a weapon. He was taken to hospital to be medically assessed where he remained as of Thursday morning.
