A few times per year congregants at The Meeting Place in Winnipeg get to see the teaching series being taught come to life through the art of painting.

Joel Schwab, Digital Media Producer for The Meeting Place said "Sometimes the artist is creating a painting based on a topic. A few times we have had multiple artists working on one large canvas. This time we are having a series of artists alter and add to the painting over four weeks."

The current series is called Becoming with the live paintings starting off as a caterpillar. As the series continues, those paintings will turn into a cocoon. Finally, they will then morph into a butterfly.

The paintings that the church accumulates serve many different purposes. Some of them get displayed around the church. Sometimes people purchase them.

"Whenever we sell paintings we set up an organization or cause we are connected to as the recipient of the money. The current paintings will be sold to benefit Villa Rosa." Villa Rosa is a prenatal and postnatal residence in Winnipeg for single pregnant women or new moms in need.

The artists in the community vary in their styles and experiences that volunteer to paint. Also, a few artistic staff have done live painting too. For the upcoming series at The Meeting Place, some artists have been on the stage many times before. There will also be some artists where this is their first time.

"It's an ever-changing and growing pool of talent," Schwab said.
