Two brothers from Winnipeg will hit the open water together next week as they sail at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

Hunter and Bryce Kristjansson will be sailing in the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Hunter has been sailing for 11 years already and competed in the 2013 Canada Summer Games.

However, he didn't always love it.

"I used to hate it, it was terrifying," Hunter joked. "Then you realize the worst that happens is that you will get wet."

That was when he was six. When Hunter was around eight or nine, he decided it wasn't all that scary. Hunter, now 18-years-old, said it actually became fun.

Hunter and his 15-year-old brother sail on Lake of the Woods, but the competition is in Gimli. Regardless, he thinks they have an advantage.

"It's sort of your home turf and you think you have an advantage on everyone," Hunter said.

The brothers have a unique opportunity to do this together with family.

"It's more fun, it's easier to focus, and we have to live with each other all the time so there is a comradery on the boat," Hunter said. "It's easier to let go [of anger] as a sibling."

Hunter and Bryce will be sailing the 29er for Team Manitoba.
