Loblaws Companies Ltd. is recalling one of their products due to a potential salmonella contamination.

The affected product is the 1.81 Kilogram bag of $10 chicken fries with product code 2019 JN 22 and universal product code 0 60249 01411 4.

This recall was triggered by findings by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

Currently, there are 4 cases of illness in four provinces linked to this outbreak: 1 in Alberta, 1 in Manitoba , 1 in Ontario and 1 in Quebec.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Anyone who thinks they have become sick from consuming a recalled product is encouraged to contact their doctor. They are also encouraged to throw out or return the recalled product to the store where they were purchased.
