Tears were shed and memories shared as friends, family and complete strangers gathered to remember Mary Madeline Yellowback Tuesday night.

The 33 year old woman from God's River, Manitoba was found dead at a recycling plant in the Omand's Creek Industrial Area late last week.

Winnipeg Police say it is unclear at this time as to what led to her death and how she ended up at the recycling plant.

It is believed that Yellowback was in Winnipeg for medical purposes. She arrived here three weeks ago, but never returned home.

A vigil was held Tuesday night at the recycling plant where her body was discovered. Around 200 people attended including her young children and at least 20 workers from the facility.

Michele Audette a commissioner with the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls inquiry, who is in town for hearings this week was also in attendance. She said they held a prayer for the family at a hearing on Tuesday.

Winnipeg police say they are treating this investigation as a suspicious death. The homicide unit is investigating.
