The Fire Chief for the RM of Tache says they had to use the Jaws of Life at a collision on Highway 1 Thursday morning.

Allan Rau says they were called to the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 1 and PR 206 South just after 7:30 AM.

“One vehicle had attempted to cross the highway to go onto the westbound lanes and didn't see an eastbound vehicle and was hit from the side.”

He notes “There was a single person in each vehicle, and we had to extricate using the Jaws of Life. One individual was subsequently taken by STARS to HSC, the other individual we were able to take out with no problem whatsoever and was transported to Ste. Anne by road ambulance.”

According to STARS, they transported a male in his 40's in stable condition. Rau notes it was a female who was taken to hospital in Ste. Anne.

Morning traffic was heavily affected by the collision. Rau notes the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were closed while emergency services tended to the collision.

“We closed it while we established our landing zone for STARS and then, of course, while STARS was on the ground. We opened it up but was still quite backed up as we departed the scene.”

The intersection is now fully cleared, and traffic is flowing smoothly.
