The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) says they are looking into a summer incident where an 18-year-old woman and police officers were involved in an altercation.

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) says on July 11, Winnipeg Police Service officers were responding to a call on Balmoral Street when they came upon an altercation involving a young woman.

The 18-year-old was detained and released, but the woman says when she left, she complained of a sore arm. The woman was taken to the Health Sciences Centre where it was discovered she had a fractured right humerus.

IIU says initially the incident was reported to the Law Enforcement Review Agency (LERA), who then contacted the WPS of the broken humerus. Due to the serious nature of the injury, WPS reported it to the IIU on September 29.

Now, IIU is investigating and they are asking for the public for assistance. They say if anyone has any information or video footage of the July 11 incident on Balmoral Street to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
