Hillsong United is like the Coldplay of the Christian Music world - their music echoes across the world of CCM, with their most recent offering ZION (2013) garnering respect musically wherever it goes for its potent and addicting mix of limitless accessibility and undeniably thoughtful musicality.

The first time I popped in ZION at a Christian bookstore in Regina, I thought "Is this Christian music?" It raised the bar for CCM not only for me in that moment, but for every major act over the past two years since the album's release. There's a powerful story behind it all.

That's part of the reason filmmaker Jon Bock approacehd the band about shooting and producing "Hillsong - Let Hope Rise," but at the deeper level he sees what's behind -- or rather in front -- of the entire Hillsong United idea. "Everything Hillsong does is about one name only, and that's Jesus," Bock told The Christian Post in a recent interview. "Everything they do, everything they're about, is leading people toward Jesus. And that's what the goal of the film is as well."

In a bizarre twist, the film is both a documentary as well as a live concert experience, culminating in footage of one of the band's most sold-out shows ever.

After a rocky tumultous bout of negotiations on the film's distribution, a date has been set for the release of the documentary in US theatres- May 29. Releases in other locations, one of which is our very own home base of Canada, is still pending.

But we're hopeful.
