A Colorado Low that missed most of Manitoba scored a direct hit over eastern North Dakota and has resulted in a number of highway closures.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) says that Interstate 29 is closed from the Canadian border all the way to South Dakota.

Interstate 94 is also closed at Fargo. In Minnesota, I-94 is listed as completely ice-covered.

A number of other highways throughout North Dakota are listed as travel not advised.

The NDHP is asking people to avoid travel today.

They say a number of people have tried to avoid Interstate closures by taking state highways which have resulted in them becoming stranded.

Grand Forks received over a foot of snow with the storm that began Sunday and has continued into Monday morning.

The snowfall is expected to let up Monday, though it's not clear when roads might reopen.

Manitoba & Ontario highways snow covered

In Manitoba, all highways surrounding Winnipeg, including the Perimeter Highway, are reporting snow covered sections. Visibility is also reduced due to blowing snow.

In Ontario, the Trans-Canada Highway was closed for a few hours on Sunday due to poor conditions. It has since been reopened.

However, Highway 17 is reporting covered sections from the Manitoba border to Vermillion Bay, Ont.
