A Manitoba family is asking people to come forward with information in relation to the murder of a man who had been missing for almost a month.

Cody Mousseau was reported missing on December 8, 2019, but his family says he was last seen November 30 in Sandy Bay First Nation. His body was discovered in the RM of Rosedale, north of Neepawa, Man., on Christmas Eve.

Cody's brother, Jamie Mousseau, says that Cody was a jokester and a fun-loving guy who recently struggled with addiction. An online post shows a letter written by Cody before his disappearance expressing regrets for his addictions.

"I wish I didn't touch meth. I wish I wasn't a drug addict. I wish I was there for my kids," Cody wrote.

Jamie says that there is some relief now that his brother has been found, but that the family's work is not done until those responsible are brought to justice.

"I want to thank everyone who prayed for my brother and my family. You helped carry our burden. Every day that he was missing was extremely difficult and overwhelming. My family really feels for the ones who are still searching for their loved ones. All the people who helped search and the donations we received ... my family thanks you with all our hearts.

"Our work is not done. Cody is not going to be forgotten. We are going to get justice for him. The answers were/are in the community. People still need to come forward to police. Help give my brother the justice he deserves."

Jamie says he believes that people in the community might know something but are afraid to come forward. In an online post, he appeals to people from their community.

"You remember him, how he was, before his addiction took over. That’s what I remember the most, was when he was happy, always smiling, and being a jokester. Flexing his pipes 24/7. My brother was murdered.....in or around Sandy Bay First Nation. We believe that many people knew about this. I don’t know how somebody could hurt so many families and individuals and be walking around the community as a wanted man."

The death is being investigated as a homicide by Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services with assistance from the MFNPS.

Anyone with information about the disappearance and death of Cody Mousseau is asked to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment at 204-857-4445, the MFNPS Sandy Bay Detachment at 204-843-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
