A Winnipeg salon is gearing up for giving back to a local non-profit organization and needs your help.

Urban Crush Salon at 140 Provencher Blvd has chosen The Aulneau Renewal Centre at 228 Hamel Street in St. Boniface this year as the recipient of

urban crush salon long
proceeds at their annual Charity Cut-A-Thon fundraiser.

Zane Kirk, the coordinator for the event, said, "We spend all weekend cutting hair. We have a bake sale, we've got face painting, henna tattoos. And all the proceeds including tips ... are donated to the beneficiary."

The Aulneau Renewal Centre was founded in 1979 as a mission of the Missionary Oblate Sisters of St. Boniface.

In 1988, the organization was incorporated as a not-for-profit charitable organization and in 2012, became a sponsored Community of Service under the Catholic Health Corporation of Manitoba.

Their mission is to empower personal growth by providing compassionate counselling and therapy services.

The centre offers counselling services for low-income families and tries to keep their costs as low as $5 per session.

For the Urban Crush Salon, this is their third Cut-A-Thon and they have a goal to raise $6,000 at this event.

The stylists, together as a team, chose The Aulneau Renewal Centre to help commemorate their 40 year anniversary for this year's fundraiser.

Zirk said, "We get a lot of support from the local community." And added, "We just want everybody to come down and help us support the charity and make as much money as possible."

Haircuts and blowouts will be offered on a walk-in basis at the event for a donation of $25 on Saturday, May 18th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, May 19th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Urban Crush Salon, 140 Provencher Blvd.
