Five men who have relied on, or currently rely on, Main Street Project (MSP) got fitted for their trip to the runway in February.

The Runway to Change is an annual fashion show that helps raise money for MSP. The goal of the event is to help end the stigma of homelessness and addictions in Winnipeg.

"It's a really special event because it includes people with lived experience of homelessness walking on the runway," said Cindy Titus, communications coordinator for MSP.

Phil Goss walked in the first Runway to Change and is now a peer advocate with MSP and says that it's a chance to let the clients show off a little bit.

"It's a good night out for them and they get to dress up and mingle with the people," Goss said. "It's great."

Goss, 69, was homeless, spent time in detox and in jail, but came out of it and believes that if he can do it, anyone can do it.

The five men tried on different clothing combinations, going with the jeans and shirt theme this year. They will wear the outfits on February 10 when they walk the runway. Mark's Work Warehouse is donating the clothing to the men after the event, so they will get to keep the outfits.

Dana Barnes is one of the participants in the fashion show. He recently was able to move into a place of his own but knows what it was like to be homeless. He is excited about the event because he knows that places like MSP are desperately needed in the city.

"Sleeping on the streets, getting covered with snow at nighttime," Barnes said, starting to tear up. "It's not an easy life."

The Runway to Change will take place at The Fort Garry Hotel on Saturday, February 10, and all proceeds will be donated to MSP and their different projects.
