A fire that broke out for the second time on the same day resulted in seven people being treated and released by a local hospital.

Early on Monday morning, a three-story residential home in the 500 block of Ellice Avenue caught fire. It was extinguished, but later the same night caught fire a second time.

"Firefighters respond to two separate fires in the same building less than one day apart, several people transported to hospital," United Firefighters of Winnipeg tweets.

On Monday night, Winnipeg Police Service officers arrived at the building to help evacuate the building's occupants. Once firefighters arrived at 10:27 p.m., they saw encountered heavy smoke inside the building.

Seven individuals were treated by paramedics due to injuries from the fire. Six of the treated people were Winnipeg police officers. The seven were sent to the hospital in stable condition. All of the officers have since been released from the hospital.

The evacuated residents were then provided shelter by dispatched Winnipeg Transit busses. None of the residents were permitted to return to their apartments.  The City’s Emergency Social Services team assisted the residents in finding shelter.

At 11:55 p.m., the fire was declared under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
