The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says a drunk driver is responsible for a serious collision in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Police say that around 5:00 a.m., a pickup truck travelling northbound on Pembina Highway collided with a vehicle turning southbound onto Pembina from Bishop Grandin Boulevard.

The pickup truck could be seen lying on its side, and another vehicle with a damaged front end sat at the scene a few hours later. Police had taped off the intersection while they investigated.

WPS says that the driver of the truck was taken to hospital in critical condition, however, he has since been upgraded to stable condition. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded as well.

Police say that the 31-year-old male driver of the truck was arrested and will be charged with Driving While Ability Impaired (alcohol) Cause Bodily Harm and Refuse to Provide Sample. He was released on a Promise to Appear.
