Around 100 people gathered Wednesday night at the intersection where a 24-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street last week.

Jillian Claire Lammatao was crossing Sargent Avenue at Simcoe Street on July 31, just after 1 p.m., at a signalled crosswalk when she was hit. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition where she remained until succumbing to her injuries on Tuesday, August 6.

People gathered at a playground on the corner of the intersection to grieve and remember the young woman. The vigil was organized by 204 Neighbourhood Watch, a community patrol group.

Friends and loved ones shared memories of Lammatao and sang songs. All of those who spoke about her reflected on her sweet and caring personality.

In a video that circulated online Lammatao can be seen what appears to be hitting the crosswalk button and then waiting and looking both ways before proceeding across the street. It's not clear if the lights on the crosswalk were working.

An 89-year-old man was arrested following the accident and has yet to be charged, though the WPS says they may still press charges.
