Vaping, or e-cigarettes, have made a lot of headlines recently. Today on Connections we talk to an expert about the risks and benefits of vaping, as well as how to talk to our kids about the subject.

Neil Johnston is a respiratory therapist and is also the CEO of the Manitoba Lung Association.

He says there is currently a lot of unkowns surrounding the risks that vaping can hold as it's a relatively new thing. He and others are concerned, however, that they find vaping products seemed to be designed with targetting young people in mind.

But, vaping can still be a good thing in some circumstances, Johnston says. Health Canada reports that replacing cigarette smoking entirely with a vaping product will significantly reduce your exposure to toxic chemicals.

However, Johnston stresses that if people do not currently smoke then they should not start vaping.
