Janet Miller from Clean and Green Team Inc. is recommending people follow cleaning recommendations set out by the government closely to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Spring cleaning has a different meaning as families work hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Miller shares that right now is a "hectic" time for cleaners but that it is important to follow guidelines shared by Canada's provincial and federal governments.

The federal government recommends frequently cleaning high-use items such as:

  • toys
  • toilets
  • phones
  • electronics
  • door handles
  • bedside tables
  • television remotes

They also ask for Manitobans to use recommended cleaning products or dilute bleach (one part bleach, nine parts water) to clean and disinfect.

"Cleaning removes germs and dirt using soap and warm water. Disinfecting kills germs using diluted bleach, alcohol solutions with at least 70 per cent alcohol or EPA-registered household disinfectants," the province of Manitoba shares on their website.

The province also recommends wearing disposable gloves while cleaning and disinfecting. The province of Manitoba also reminds soft-surfaces such as couches and carpets to be cleaned with the "appropriate cleaners" and to wash in a machine when possible.
