The City of Winnipeg filed a Statement of Claim and a Notice of Motion against 39 parties regarding the construction of 266 Graham Avenue.

Lawyers representing the City of Winnipeg are claiming that the city has suffered losses during the construction of the new Winnipeg Police Servies headquarters.

The claim was made due to "allegations that one or more persons involved with the Project may have engaged in fraudulent activity."

Despite deciding on December 13 that no criminal charges would be laid in connection to their initial investigation, the city filed the suit this morning. The hearing will take place on January 16 at 10:00 a.m.

The original investigation was to determine if there was "sufficient evidence to proceed with legal action to recover damages." That investigation was undertaken by the RCMP. It took a total of five years to complete and be evaluated by the courts.

The City of Winnipeg turned the property into the new headquarters after purchasing it in 2010. The construction finished in 2016. The project was tens of millions of dollars over budget, costing the city $214 million.
