For the first time, the city has started keeping track of exactly how many potholes they are filling in Winnipeg throughout the year.

The idea was suggested by Marty Morantz, the Charleswood city councillor and has now been in place throughout 2017.

Cheryl Anderson, acting manager of street maintenance with Winnipeg's Public Works states that they do the count every week and have now reached around 100,000 potholes.

"We thought it was an exciting way to get different information out to the public because we're always proud of our crews that are out there doing all this work and sometimes they're not noticed. But we do have many crews out there, even today we have, I believe, 8 crews out right now that are filling potholes."

There is usually about $2 million budgeted for filling potholes, but they have had to spend slightly more than that over the last few years.

Anderson encourages all Winnipeggers to call 311 to describe potholes or report them online or through their app so crews can be dispatched to repair the site as soon as possible.
