After being closed for nearly three months, the doors of the church built on the spot believed to be Jesus' birthplace are open once again.

The Church of the Nativity was closed on March 5 as the first cases of COVID-19 were reported in the West Bank.

That closure meant it was closed for this year's Easter celebrations. Easter is typically a time that sees tens of thousands of pilgrims come to the site.

"All the people now can enter the church and pray like before," says Bishop Theophylactos of the Greek Orthodox church, according to the Associated Press.

There are have been 400 cases of COVID-19 reported in the West Bank, and two deaths. The AP says that most of those cases were traced back to Palestinians who work in Israel.

Israel as a whole has been dealing with a much larger outbreak, with nearly 17,000 cases and 279 deaths. However, schools and places of worship have begun to open up again as the spread has slowed.
