On a sunny, warmer than usual Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg, hundreds of brightly covered scarves coated benches, trees, posts and bike racks in the Exchange District.

Chase the Chill is a campaign where people knit or crochet scarves and place them in a public space for people - particularly those in need - to take.

The campaign started in Pennsylvania in 2008 and has expanded to approximately 60 communities in the world, 12 of which are in Canada. Of those 12 chapters in Canada, six are in Manitoba.

Manitoba also has Chase the Chill chapters in Brandon, Dauphin, Hamiota/Oak River, Selkirk and The Pas, in addition to Winnipeg.

This is the seventh year Chase the Chill Winnipeg has put on the event.

They have the scarves on the first Saturday, every December.
