A 33 year old male is now charged with Second Degree Murder after the death of Hunter Straight-Smith.

Hunter had received several blood transfusions while in hospital. However, the family said that an MRI showed that the toddler had suffered severe brain damage.

Daniel Jensen, 33, was arrested earlier this week and charged with attempted murder. He was in an on-again-off-again relationship with the boy's mother but was not the boy's father.

Hunter passed away at 4:10 p.m. on November 2, 2019, after being taken off of life support.

Winnipeg Police Service says, "In consultation with Manitoba Justice, members of the Major Crimes Unit obtained a warrant for the arrest of Daniel Jensen for Second Degree Murder."

On November 6, 2019, investigators attended the Winnipeg Remand Centre and placed Jensen under arrest. Jensen has been returned to custody.

The funeral for Hunter takes place tomorrow, Friday, November 8.
