The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is sending teams to Iran to investigate the plane crash the occurred on January 8.

TSB obtained two visas for investigators on Monday and will continue to be involved in the ongoing investigation.

"We all want answers."

The investigators are being sent to learn why the tragedy occurred and how it was possible. Iran says it accidentally struck the plane out of the air on Wednesday. Canadian investigators hope to work with officials in Iran to learn more.

Canadians will be working "as a team" with international investigators in Iran. TBS's hope is that by working closely with Iran they can have a transparent investigation. Canada is conducting a Safety Investigation while other countries are free to explore the incident in their own matter. Countries involved were permitted to appoint an expert in the investigation but Canada has been given permission to have two people join.

Canada is invited to work closely with Iran because of how many lives were affected by the crash and Canada's strong reputation in airplane investigations. Canada's two experts were flown to Turkey, where they were granted visas to enter Iran yesterday. Over the weekend Canada warned against "non-essential" travel to Iran due to the tensions around the incident.

"We all want answers, and sharing information is a cornerstone of trust. The world deserves to know how and why events unfolded as they did," says TSB representative Kathy Fox.

A team will also be headed to the country to examine the aircraft recorder download and analysis once it becomes available to investigators.
