Updates to the City's bike registry program mean you can expect to reunite with your lost or stolen cycles sooner than ever before.

Registering your bicycle has never been this easy; just head online and add it to the City of Winnipeg's existing bike registry service.

By completing the registration process, the City can ensure that should your bike be lost or stolen and then located, you can be informed immediately and make quick arrangements for your bike to be returned.

Several bikes can be registered per household, according to a City of Winnipeg news release, and up to three photos can be uploaded for each bike on the registry.

For these services, a small, one-time fee of $6.60, including tax, will be charged of you, however no other costs will be required of you by this program, even in arranging for the safe return of your bicycle.

The hope is that this easy-to-use and access program can allow for bikes to be quickly returned to their owners by the police after being lost or stolen. Councillor Mike Pagtakhan, Chair, Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks thinks that the online registry will mean a more efficient experience for those attempting to relocate their missing bicycles.

"The registry will provide an affordable way for the public to increase their chances of being reunited with their bicycles" Pagtakhan said.

The program is supported by the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), who hopes rightful owners will now be able to receive their missing cycles more quickly.
