After a verbal dispute between two groups that ended with anti-immigrant rhetoric being spoken, The Belgian Club has pulled out of Folklorama.

Christa Mariash, director of marketing and communications with Folklorama, said in an email that the Belgian Club has withdrawn their participation at the 2018 Folklorama Festival. The Belgian Club is the sponsoring organization of the Belgian Pavilion.

The decision comes less than a week after asking a Belgian Club volunteer board member to step down after allegedly yelling anti-immigrant rhetoric at protesters during a Canadian Nationalist Party meeting. The club has also come under fire for allowing an organization like the Canadian Nationalist Party to book the space.

Folklorama says they will make no further comments on the situation. Purchased tickets to the pavilion will be refunded.

Folklorama 2018 will kick off its 48th year on Sunday, August 5.
