It seemed like spring was almost here, but an early March storm covered the ground with a fresh layer of snow, and Winnipeggers aren't sure how to feel.

Highways and schools were closed Monday as a Colorado Low swept through the city, leaving Winnipeg blanketed in a thick layer of heavy, wet snow.

The winter storm, considered the first major storm of the season, didn't sit well with Winnipeggers.

"It's going to cause a lot of problems for a lot of people driving," Rod Pauls said earlier. "This is Winnipeg, we shouldn't expect anything different."

"Very heavy snow," Matt Campbell noted. "It's like a giant sponge underneath, it's rolling up slushy water."

Despite the unwelcome arrival of snow, many also admitted that it was incredibly beautiful.

"Look at the trees, they are absolutely gorgeous," Alisha smiled. "As long as you are inside and enjoying the heat."

"It's kind of fun," Pauls said. "It's not minus 40, so that's a bonus."

The forecast indicates the snow could be finished by Monday night, with clear skies Tuesday morning.
