Three adults and an infant are recovering from gunshot wounds after an attack on Sunday afternoon in a Winnipeg home.

Police were called for a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Flora Avenue around 3:15. Both general patrol officers, as well as the tactical support team, responded to the call.

Police say they believe a suspect male entered through the door of a single-family residence on that block and fired a shotgun into the residence before fleeing the area.

The shot struck four victims inside the house. Three of the victims are adults and one is an infant.

All four were taken to hospital by ambulance. The three adults are now in stable condition. The infant’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, however, an updated status is not available at this time.

Police have not said if they believe the attack was random, or if the victims and suspect were known to each other.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

The violent Sunday afternoon was an endcap to an already violent weekend in Winnipeg. Three people died in two separate incidents late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

The WPS says in a release that "the tragic incidents that have taken place within the City over the past 18 hours have placed a significant strain on Winnipeg Police Service resources."

The high number of serious incidents has resulted in slow response times for some other calls. "We will continue to triage all calls for service and prioritize personal and public safety over property concerns and incidents where there is no immediate threat. We ask those waiting for a police response during this time to please be patient."
