Following mutually reactive attacks, the United States and Iran remain locked in growing tensions that could have ramifications for Christians.

Tit-for-tat attacks between the US and Iran on Iraqi land could result in significant consequences, Mission Network News reports.

After the attacks and the death of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, world leaders spoke out online of the rising tensions on Friday.

In an online post, Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran, says: "The great nationof Iran will take revenge for this heinous crime."

Meanwhile, the US has urged citizens to leave Iraq immediately and has sent thousands of troops into the area.

Such military decisions will also impact Christians in the region.

"Iran, and many Middle Eastern countries look at Christianity as a Western influence, and especially as a US influence. So, whenever they want to… make a statement to Western culture, they always arrest Christians or do worse things ... beat them, torture them, kill them," says a representative with Global Catalytic Ministries (GCM).

While the situation remains uncertain, the GCM representative says terrorist groups could take advantage of the opportunity.

"In this situation, they will put aside their differences and their hatred to attack who they hate the most together, which is America," they say.

Despite ongoing Christian persecution and danger, the ministry representative says tensions have resulted in more people coming to faith.

"We’re seeing the biggest revival in the Middle East since the Islamic conquest," they say.

"Where there's chaos, the gospel flourishes."
