A large thunderstorm woke many people up early Sunday morning in Winnipeg.

The system began to move through the city with rain, thunder, and lightning shortly after 5:00 a.m.

Environment Canada says that 14 millimetres of rain fell between 4:00 and 7:00 a.m. at the James Richardson International Airport. Other areas of the city received nearly 30 millimetres in the same time frame.

That was enough to once again flood streets and overwhelm storm drains.

Manitoba Hydro says that over 4,000 customers in Winnipeg are without power just before 8:00 a.m.

Hydro says crews are working to find the cause and get power restored.

They are also dealing with a number of outages outside the City of Winnipeg.
